DH and I are off to a wedding in August without the DC. We are after luxury without feeling ripped off. Hotel du Vin looks nice - anyone stayed there?

Would really appreciate recommendations - don't go without DC very often so want to make the most of this!

Thanks.

Hotel du Vin is very lovely and rather pricey. Excellent bar in the cellar, but you might find it a bit claustrophobic for August.

Good alternatives include Hotel Felix on the Huntingdon Road, and...well, not much else, really. Cambridge is embarrassingly short of decent hotels.

However, there was a good thread on this very topic about a year ago. I'll see if I can find it for you.

I haven't stayed there as I am a Cambridge local, but Hotel du Vin is very close to town so could be great if the wedding is central. The hotel that I have heard good things about, but again haven't stayed at, is Hotel Felix. However, this is further out so might not be so convenient. Where is the wedding?

yes i ahve stayed there. loved it. in fact when i saw your title i was going to come on and recommend hotel du vin. you cant go wrong in my view! we visit a hotel du vin each year on our anniversary. they are fab and the cambridge one is a fabbbbbbby one!! go!!

Thanks for replies. Am going to Google Hotel Felix.
Wedding is in centre of Cambridge but the reception is at Shingay-cum-Wendy. Seems a shame to book a fab place and spend the entire day away from it! Am thinking that two nights might be the (very expensive) way to go.

Garden House is okay
Nice lounge, food bar etc
Has a small pool and gym

Ruthiebabes · 01/04/2009 19:37

We stayed in Garden House and must say was quite impressed.

Lovely central location right next to the river where the punting is. Good leisure facilities and parking on site. Would def use this hotel again. Check it out. We wanted a quiet weekend without the children and this hotel ticked all the boxes. Not too pricey.
