hi all
we really want to go long haul for last two weeks of august this year (europe so expensive we decided it would almost cost the same). nothing booked and no decision on where to go. we have a 3.4 yr old. I dont like very hot and humid places and we would like to be near a beach but also have some city/cultural life. if it was about 75 degrees and sunny that would be perfect. any suggestions from you seasoned travellers?

Cape Cod?

Never been but I hear the beaches are lovely that way and you are close enough to visit Boston and New York.

South Africa wouldn't be too hot in August and there are some lovely beaches around the Cape. Alse very family friendly and good value for money

Yes I have been to Boston in July/Aug and it was very warm and sticky! :s

We went to the Seychelles last summer and it was warm but not not but mostly beach not much city!

Good luck!

We are going to Southern Ontario this summer. It pretty much checks the temperature/humidity boxes (although odd days can get very hot and humid).

We are having a week near Toronto, a week a resort in Muskoka lakes (about 200 miles north of TO, IIRC), and then another few days near TO. We will do all the city/culture stuff in TO, as well as a trip to Niagara Falls. There are good beaches on the shores of Lake Ontario, but we will be doing our water stuff up in Muskoka.

Thailand? Sri Lanka?

Boston & NYC & Washington DC (whole eastern seaboard basically) are sweltering and v. v. humid in Aug. But Cape Cod or Martha's Vineyard would be nice.

I always think that Cape Cod is a bit iffy, weatherwise (very British but a few degrees warmer).

When the weather is bad, everyone on the Cape is crowding into the same crappy 'museum'.

We go to Cape Cod for family reunions but I struggle to see the attraction for international visitors.
