Hi,

Is it worth the money?

Anyone know where to get discounted tickets?

Best / worst bits ?

Any tips welcome, thanks

Its very expensive but i would say its a great day out, you can also return to do the things you didn't manage to do the first time.

I loved going as a child, my nan would take me once a year. I would say the best parts are the safari park (watch out for the monkeys if you go in your car) and feeding the sea lions from the boat. Worst bits are mainly the price of things, the shop is expensive as is the cafe (take a picnic).

Thanks Marne,

I also went as a child but that was 30 years ago

The children would really like to go during Easter. I can't seem to find any discount codes though so looks like I will have to pay full price.

Longleat is really fun, went there last year with my 4 year old. We used our Tesco clubcard points and got vouchers. Was a much cheaper option but you need to save your points up!!

Be prepared to have to repair your car...seriously. The monkeys strip all the rubber bits and anything which isn't firmly stuck to your car!

MrsMcCluskey · 28/03/2009 17:43

I wasnt impressed
Expensive
The animal park was great
the rest of it too crowded and the catering was dreadful

diedandgonetodevon · 28/03/2009 17:44

Longleat is really worth the money but if you drive a decent car use the bus to go around the safari bit to save your windscreen wipers/trim/badge etc!

Kayteee · 28/03/2009 17:45

oh also, go in a car with air-con or go on a day which is not hot as you have to keep windows shut for most of the Safari. We could not breathe and were sweating like piggies when we went last year and it ruined the tour part.

We are going in Auguest on Tesco vouchers, but also, are staying in the caravan club site inside the grounds. That way, we can do free thingys everyday, and the ticketed bits spread out over 3.
Friends have done it before and said it's great. I remember racing round in a day and missing stuff.

JiminyCricket · 28/03/2009 17:52

it said on the news last night the monkeys enclosure is closed as one of them has a herpes infection

Shock

I enjoyed it when I went with a friend and their DC's - just make sure your child/ren use the loos provided before driving around the enclosures as my friend's DC ended up weeing in the car as they had shut the doors at the lion bit and there was a mega queue to get out!

piscesmoon · 28/03/2009 18:24

It is a great day out. The ticket is a passport and you can return to do the bits you didn't have time for. Don't take your car through the monkey enclosure-take the safari bus -they can take off windscreen wipers in seconds!

Agree that Tesco Days Out Vouchers are the best value.
We had an old banger when we went a couple of years ago so didn't mind the monkey damage.
We went during late August 2007, the week before the Bank Holiday. Was a rare dry day during that general washout of a summer so was quite busy. When we got there, approx 11.30am, we were put in the overflow car park which meant we did the house part first then the animal park in the evening before we left.

MilaMae · 29/03/2009 21:40

Definately not worth the money. We did it through Tesco, soooo glad we didn't pay full price.

Make sure you add on the price of a trip to a garage to get your car fixed if you do the monkey enclosure which I have to say is probably the best thing there as you have a few minutes peace away from the crowds.

Some things are free anyway, it's always heaving, there are massive queues for things that aren't really that thrilling to be honest.

I wouldn't even waste my Tesco points again having done it once.
