speedo's only! - french campsite rules... is this normal?

i have just booked a campsite in france for this years holiday. I was reading the campsite rules last night and it states that swimming shorts are strictly forbidden in the pool. Only swimming trunks are allowed....in fact there is even a picture of a pair of shorts with a big red cross over them....is this slightly bizarre?? I can't think of any real reason for this.
DH is a bit on the lanky side....the thought of him in speedo's is well, not pretty, besides, he will flatly refuse to wear anything like that anyway.

The fact that one of the photos on the website shows two blokes sporting freddie mercury-esque 'taches with their arms round each other in the pool is really worrying DH now....

or even, Minkyborage, speedos over shorts..a sort of 'john major Guardian spoof' look

Tortington · 26/03/2009 09:36

they all say that - everyone ignores it - don't worry.

Milliways · 26/03/2009 16:11

Custy - That's what we thought having been to France for years with no problems ever. However, we have been to a few sites now where it IS strictly enforced. We have even seed the life guards ejecting Teens from the pool & threatening to confiscate wristbands for trunk violation!

Ladies! I've just given birth 5 days ago, how am I meant to keep my stitches in when you've got me laughing so much???
I feel a first person piece in the Mail about the dangers of post-natal Mnetting coming on!

Mmmmmm!

Why has this very old thread been revived? Was about to post when I realised I already had - over a year ago!

BikeRunSki · 16/07/2010 17:32

Is normal in France in my experience.

welshdeb · 16/07/2010 17:37

It is common but seems to be variable in whether it's enforced. So he always packs a pair and my ds
My dh and ds bought some Lycra boxer short type things from decathlon when we were there last time

upahill · 16/07/2010 17:37

I was in Chamonix last summer with DS1 and 2 and even the kids have to wear Speedos. The look of horror on DS1's face was fab!!

The swimming pool hire them out.

CornishTwinMoominMamma · 02/05/2011 16:49

My husband looked mortified when I pointed out the small print in the Eurocamp brochure (after we'd made our booking) that stated banana-hammocks must be worn poolside. Eek.

ENormaSnob · 04/05/2011 10:42

We went to the Vendee in 09 and this wasn't enforced.

I very much doubt dh could be persuaded into a pair of budgie smugglers Grin

am ridiculously pleased that the latest post on this thread on Active Convos was by ENormaSnob Grin

They dont have this rule at the Club Med near Nice that we went to last year.

Jolly nice holiday too.

Grin
ullainga · 06/05/2011 11:39

it's because there is all kinds of fluff in the pockets of shorts and also nobody wants to see all the floating body hair.
this is allowed though

I don*t get the swimming shorts at all. they look horrible and dirty.
dh (and ds) always wears speedoes and looks very good sexy in them.

newbeliever · 06/05/2011 11:57

We had this on holiday in the Vendee a few years back - both my DH and DS - we argued the point for a good few minutes and realised we weren't getting anywhere with the french life-guard (who was himself wearing shorts!). My DS was so disappointed that out of desperation my DH asked if they could swim in their pants and the lifeguard said that would be ok Shock

Very bizarre - I can still remember the image now of my DH carrying my DS as 'protection' en-route to the changing rooms once out of the pool as his pants had gone rather see-through Grin

Had great fun picking out some trunks as Xmas pressies for our holiday the following year!

Toffeelatteplease · 11/08/2015 09:18

Swimming trunks are so much nicer than shorts anyway!!!
