Come on then, lets get a gaggle together and have a Big Chill / Mumnset meet up. hardy har. can't wait for the Barn Dance this year!

Flum · 17/07/2005 21:07

Must be some Chilled MNetters non?

milkbar · 03/08/2005 15:03

Hooray - Setting off tommorrow. But I'm not sure what to expect (the last festival we went to was pre-dd)

Any tips?

Can you tell me about the Barn Dance Flum?

spidermama · 03/08/2005 15:08

DON'T camp near the portaloos whatever you do.
It was my downfall at the Big Chill (pregnant with two small kids) and I ended up going to a hotel on the second night.
We were packing up camp and the kids were shouting, to our utter embarrassment, 'Hooray! Will their be a telly in the HOTEL mummy?'

I think Thomcat is going. Where is she anyway????

milkbar · 03/08/2005 15:14

Spidermama that is very funny. If it gets really muddy a la glasto I might also want to retreat somewhere dry, but fingers crossed the weather forecast looks good.

Was proximity to portaloos a downfall due to smell / noise / general traffic?

dd (3.5) always needs to pee in the middle of the night - will this be my living nightmare?

spidermama · 03/08/2005 17:29

All three milkbar. Mainly noise though. Definitly a low point lying in sleeping bag on hard ground sometime after midnight, seven months pregnant, having stopped partying several hours ago due to tired kids, listening to everyone else having a good time and hearing the portaloo doors slamming shut ALL night. Hearing DH snoring contentedly did nothing to lift my spirits either.

That said, I'm still really jealous of everyone who's going to a festival this year.

Enjoy.

As for kids needing to wee in night, take a potty. Then you can swill it out later.

Just got back from Big Chill. I started a thread a while back checking if anyone else was going but missed this thread.
How was it for you? We all loved it. Feel shattered right now but as that seems to mean I can feel baby move more it's all good. Lottie LOVED it. She danced and danced and laughed and giggled and just generally had a fab time. Will be going back next year. Had my birthday there as well so that was nice. Yeah, loving the Big Chill, hope you feel the same. TC x

It was lovely - DD spent most of her time dancing as well, and being a fairy. And putting fairy dust on everyone she met.

Lovely music, lovely food, lovely atmosphere, lovely valley.. will certainly go back.

The only downer was the VERY noisy shagging and party people in tent near us - we think they thought it was the 'make a family' field rather than the Family Field.

What was everyone's best bits?

Thomcat · 09/08/2005 21:09

Oh no at the noisy shagging! I slept like a log and din't hear a peep from anyone I have to say. The little cockrels (as in little crying / laughing etc children) in the morning were the only thing that roused me and that was never before 8am.

The best bits for me, blimey so many.....

  • the other lovely people and their reactions to Lottie.

  • The amount of grown men who made such a fuss over Lottie and had a dance / cuddle etc with her

  • Norman Jay playing a superb set and the way he made me feel on my birthday in the sunshine

  • walking through the chill gate for the 1st time and being bowled over at the stands, esp the sushi bar with the moving conveyor belt of sushi

  • the mist on the lake on Saturday night and the shillouttes of everyone standing along the lake watching an enormous bubble floating serenely along

  • lottie waking up as I walked her back to the tent past the mad proffessor who was playing and her opening her eyes and shouting 'oh wow' and dancing with her little sleepy eyes!

-Lotties reaction when I took her back into the chill gate on day 2 whenb she realised she was getting more of day 1! She threw her little arms in the air and shouted 'party, hooray'

Fat Camp and Soul of a Man rocking it at the srtrongbow tent on Saturday night

  • all day on Friday sat by the lake at the Fat Tuesday tent was a highlight, such great music all day and such great and friendly people everywhere

  • the arts trail after all the music had finished on Sunday night

  • my shiatsui massage (the indian head and reflexology were also very nice!)

Think that's it! How about you, what were your best bits?

Flum · 05/09/2005 00:24

Did you enjoy it Milkbar? We loved it. 3 nights camping was too much for me and dd, we were knackered when we got home. kept rolling down hill.

going in family camping next year, instead of larging up with my mates!
