Transfer times in Tenerife?

Inspired by another thread we are thinking of booking Los Gigantes in Tenerife... only thing is that the first choice website reckons the transfer time is 1 1/2 hours... Has anyone done it?

Would it be feasible to hire a car instead?

We didn't do the transfer, we hired a car, and it took approx 40 mins from the airport. I guess the transfer must take longer just because they must drop off in other places along the way. If you hire a car through First Choice like we did, I was disappointed that you don't get your car at the airport, and go in a minibus to an industrial estate 5 mins away, and there were no child seats in the minibus, which narked me (though luckily we had brought our own along). If we did it again I would look into hire companies that you can pick up and drop off at the airport.

Ooo I'm glad I found you - it was actually the hotel that you recommended that we are thinking of going to.

Is there much outside of the hotel?

Its probably going to cost £1000 for the three of us (ds is 22 months) - do you think its worth it?

www.autoreisen.es is the cheapest rent a car in tenerife. based in both airports, and they have baby seats of all sizes.
Where are you landing North or south? if North then 1 1/2 is normal time transfer.

los gigantes is impressive, but a bit isolated. Beaches are quite small, and haven't seen which hotel it is, but be aware that los gigantes is not a flat village, but it goes up the hill, so with a buggy sometimes it may be hard . but really beautiful place. May I suggest you take a look at costa adeje (starts la Caletta till fanabe)? there is a 13km walk by the sea which takes you till los cristianos.

the riu arecas, the costa adeje palace are family friendly and not too expensive (costa adeje is upper level), and you will be close to one of the nicest beach in south tenerife) , the one in front of the Bahia del Duque Hotel . Very safe, no fish and chips,no cars , very romantic walk at night, and you are really close to las americas, some shops, surfers to admire, ..
oops have to go, i'll be back asap

the hotel is los gigantes suites and spa? Its really new. Its an all inc hotel, which is the appeal with the euro being so poor. We'll have a buggy with us but as ds is nearly 2 he's quite happy to walk. To be honest we are just looking for a nice hotel with plenty on so we can have a week playing/swimming/bimbling around with ds. Will have a look at the resorts you've suggested. We can get a taxi for about 90 quid return, which takes 45 mins apparently, we just aren't keen on 4 hour flight then 1 1/2 hours on a bus. Hire car is an option though as dp used to work in tenerife many moons ago.

Hi geordieminx

Do look around for best prices if booking. We have booked for summer and saved £1500 on the first choice with direct holidays.

Personally I think for £1000 all in, it is worth it, but if you can get it cheaper then its even more worth it!! We paid almost double that (being a teacher is painful at times!!) and I was still a happy bunny. Lory is quite right about the hills, but I'm 6 months preggers and I didn't find it too much of a problem with the buggy (just got DH to push it!!) the upside of it being hilly is that you get great views. In terms of there being much to do outside the hotel, I really don't know, we just crashed out at the hotel for the week. Went for a couple of walks, there were some small gift type shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants, but we didn't venture inside! I think I read something about there being a free bus service to Costa Adeje from the older sister hotel down the hill, that might influence your decision about a hire car? BTW, my commment about transfer times was based on the south airport. I really think I should stop boring people about my holiday now!!
