good place to eat near Bristol Zoo

We are going to Bristol Zoo for dd's 3rd birthday, with some friends, and their 2 kids (4 and 2). Does anyone know somewhere to eat, not too pricey, good for kids near the zoo?

Thankyou

I would bring a picnic and have it on the Downs.

hazeyjane · 12/03/2009 08:30

Thankyou.

I thought about a picnic, but think it might be a bit chilly on Sunday.

Dh is now talking about buying a bed for dd2 on same day from Ikea (he likes to multi task!), so have a feeling we might end up having lunch there.

Bristol zoo is a bit far away from any eateries. The Ikea idea may be your best bet.

belgo · 12/03/2009 08:35

You can eat in Bristol Zoo. Ther are places to eat in Whiteladies Road, which is a bit further away, but I don't know how child friendly they are.

Ikea is probably your best bet.

If you leave the car at the zoo, you can walk into Clifton village, where there are lots of places to eat. Ask at the zoo for directions, it's only about a 10 min walk, just wander round and pick somewhere you fancy

When we go to the Zoo we always spend the best part of a day in there. They have a restaurant which is not bad, not posh and the food can be variable but not the worst place in the world. Can get very busy though.

CMOTDibbler · 12/03/2009 21:11

I quite like the food at the zoo - and I agree that it does get very busy.

I think there is a Wagamama in Clifton village, and thats very child friendly

When it's open the pizza stand in the zoo is nice. But it's not always open. In Clifton village there are loads of places - Zizzis (sp) is good. Or Planet Pizza on Whiteladies Road (if it's still there, haven't been for a while).

LilyBolero · 12/03/2009 21:13

There's also a Pizza Express in Clifton Village.

PussinJimmyChoos · 12/03/2009 21:14

Can vouch for Zizzis in Clifton Village..also a Pizza Express there and loads of lovey coffee shops

There is a lovely picnic area in the zoo but they also have outside seating that is covered over from the rain etc and so you can picnic there too

PussinJimmyChoos · 12/03/2009 21:18

oooh - more Bristol mnetters here then

Can vouch for Wagamamas - very child friendly

hazeyjane · 12/03/2009 21:34

Thankyou for all the suggestions, everyone.

Pizza Express, might be a good bet (everyone loves pizza!). Is Zizzi similar?

If the weather isn't too bad, might do a picnic.

Last time we went to the zoo, the restaurant was manic, and I just thought it might be better to book somewhere for an early lunch before the zoo.

Zizzi is similar but with more focus on italian dishes other than Pizza iyswim? Although they do lovely pizzas - have a wood fire oven

Its very child friendly though and popular with families so you will have no worries taking your DCs there

Deffo go into Clifton Village. Depends what you want but Primrose Cafe is good, there are loads of eateries. There is a deli just down from the Mall that is lush!

hazeyjane · 15/03/2009 20:06

Thankyou everyone.

Sadly we didn't make it to bristol zoo, as dd's asthma has reared it's ugly head and we didn't want to make the car journey with her coughing and wheezing. Instead we had friends over and had a picnic in the garden (thankyou lovely weather!). It was a really great day.

I will definately look into clifton village next time we go to the zoo.
