We might be able to go away for a week at the end of June, and Lithuania looks beautiful and relatively affordable.

We're (well, dh is) used to driving on holiday, so we could drive or stay put in one place or whatever. We love nature, history, local culture etc - all of which seems to be covered brilliantly by Lithuania.

If anyone's been (or are from there?), I'd love to hear more. Thanks.

Went years ago - fantastic place, would highly recommend it, especially given the list of things you like.

I went on a tour that went to Estonia and Latvia as well so can't give much advice on independent travel.

Great, thanks LooptheLoop. Any favorites areas /cities? We'll definitely spend at least two days in Vilnius, but is still deciding about the rest (should we definitely go, that is!)

Having read this Spa review I'm trying to tell myself that no, I can't just go to a spa for a week and say I've seen Lithuania... Yet, from £14 (2007 prices, granted) for a facial - it just feels wrong not to!

It was quite a while ago and my memory cells have gone a bit since then!

That spa looks great!

But I do remember that Vilnius was lovely to wander around on foot.

The Hill of Crosses was striking and we went to Neringa Spit (sandy beaches) and Kaunas which I would also recommend.

I imagine self drive would be great - everyone was really friendly and just browsing around in the countryside sounds fun.

One of our group spoke Russian and she got a cooler reaction until they realised that she was British!

It also wasn't the best country for a vegetarian back then (just in case it's relevant to you!)

Ooh, that sounds lovely. Thank you very much for the tips.
