Croatia at Easter - warm enough? Sandy enough?

I love the sound of Croatia, but a beach hol is probably a must. If we go in April, is it going to be too cold? I've also heard that there are only a few sandy beaches & with a 5 yr old & 3 yr old they probably would be a requirement. It looks a spectacular country, but we'd hope to avoid hiring a car and therefore would need a good base to access the beach & other places of interest. Can anyone recommend where we should go, please, or gently dissuade us if it's not a great idea.

We went at Easter a few years ago (ore-kids). We had a wonderful time and I have raved about it ever since. However there was no way it was warm enough to lounge around in a swim cossie. It was sunny and warm but I wore a light jumper even at midday. We travelled around quite a bit and saw very few (if any) sandy beaches - but maybe there are some in other areas. To be honest I don't think it is the right destination for a spring beach holiday. It is lovely to travel around and muse at the stunning old towns, craggy coast lines and gorgeous countryside in the national parks. Sorry!

This is what I suspected. Thank you! The dc are both redheads and we do have to avoid the hot sun, but it sounds as though that really won't be a problem!

agree its not an Easter sunny holiday . Sandy beaches are really few and far between and the water is COLD !! Dubrovnik is great and its easy to get round there using public transport But the beaches are man made... Easter is not that busy there but at that time of the year it is more a sightseeing kind of place..I would go a bit further south in the med for sun at Easter .... Sorry !!
P.s I love Croatia so do put it on you list of places to go ...one day !!
