9 hour flight with a 2 year old

I am travelling with my two year old on my own to Canada tonight, (DP is staying behind)have to go as a last minute situation due to a serious illness in my family (I am from Canada), so this has all come about in the past few days, not really giving me much chance to prepare-which I tend to like to do!
Anyway, I have travelled when DC was a baby, but not when DC is more active....and the word active is an understatement!
sorry if this has been posted before, but any ideas or suggestions of how to make it through the before boarding-we have already checked in, but have to get to airport, park car, transfer to airport, drop off luggage etc..so I am hoping this will take up a lot of the time, also, the arduous 9 hour plane ride would be much appreciated! In short haul flights we have been on DC has had a lot of trouble with pain in the ears, so was able to solve this with a bottle, but we are off those now, and since we cannot take liquids through, just not sure what to do there. Anyway, any tried and true suggestions would be much appreciated!

Which airport? If you can book one of the meet and greet services where they take your car from you at the departures drop off point, go for it! It is invaluable.

soup, we are flying from heathrow...I tried the meet and greet, but as it was so last minute, there was no availbility left for flying out, we have it for the return though!
