i have just booked a hol with a mate and received an email form ryanair asking for me to validate the booking, and click on a link wihich asks for all of our passport details. i have never had to do this before (or never noticed the link and not done it!) but it says if they dont have this information we will not be able to board. is this right? i mean its not a problem to provide the info, but was a bit wary of it as i have not done it before.

am i ok to fill it in?

I wouldn't. Sounds v dodgy. Vheck their website.

Check

skramble · 01/03/2009 17:36

It is over a year since I flew with Ryanair but never had this, but I know there are different systems in place for different countries, but didn't think this was required for Spain.

I wouldn't reply, but contact them by other means and ask if it is legite.

dizzymac · 01/03/2009 17:38

We had to do this with Ryanair last summer. It is genuine ( I hope) and not a new policy.

castille · 01/03/2009 17:40

Ah yes now that you mention it I think there are special requirements for Spain re passports so i take back what I said. But check their website anyway!

Ponders · 01/03/2009 17:57

It's not them, it's Spain - they now insist on full passport details for all passengers from the UK & Switzerland (just us & them - aren't we lucky )

lizandlulu · 01/03/2009 18:23

the email did come form ryanair themselves as far as i know, so will double check. thnak you for putting my mind at rest

I mean it's Spain who are insisting, Ryanair are just doing as they're told. (Though it's only a legal requirement for flights after 22 June I read somewhere today)

Simplysally · 01/03/2009 20:15

I had to do this last year flying from Spain (Palma) with Easyjet although oddly, I don't recall if I had to do this with the flight there. I flew via Cologne though so it might be different entering from a Schengen country.

If you are in doubt, access the link via the Ryanair websit but it should be ok.

We had to do this last September when we travelled with ryanair to spain, it is a requirement whoever you fly with, but I think other airlines do it for you when you check in and ryanair get you to do it yourself through their website.

Hersetta · 02/03/2009 10:25

Yep it's been the law since 1st July last year now that you have to provide details in advance of your trip. I flew to Spain with Ryanair last week by the way.

wotzy · 02/03/2009 12:15

www.dft.gov.uk tells you more here.

This information is sometimes known as 'Advance Passenger Information' ('API' or 'APIS' data). Many airlines require this now.

Virgin and BA let you go online and add 'API' info too, into your own booking details.

Your air carrier is legally required to provide this information to the Spanish authorities (and other countries).

PerArduaAdNauseum · 02/03/2009 12:22

I'd consider making this your last Ryanair flight though - they won't even be taking the piss soon

wotzy · 02/03/2009 12:28

More info can be found on the BA website as to countries that require API

Passport information required, varies for each destination, so USA and Caribbean are different to Spain (slightly different anyway)

For Spain
Passport information, including:
passport number
given names (as they appear on the passport)
last name
gender
date of birth
nationality

My sis recently went on ryanair and had to give this info online.

Ponders · 02/03/2009 19:17

Passport issue date & expiry date too as I understand it?

lizandlulu · 02/03/2009 21:40

ok, thnak you, i have yet to do it! i am going with dd, a friend and her 2 ds's. so got to sit down with her and get it all out and go through it.

i heard about the toilet rule coming in, i think it is terrible, my dd has a fascination with loo's, once she goes once and knows where they are, she wants to go every 5 mins! hopefully she wil have outgrown this phase before next time we fly
