We (2 couples) need to stay in St.Malo overnight in early May with our children (18 mths). Does anyone have any recommendations? Ideally a hotel with a restaurant in same building so we can eat while they sleep. Cheap is good. We're only staying for one night before we catch the ferry home.

The Novotel at Dinard just 1o mins from St malo and overlooking it is fantastic and ideal for small children. We got it cheap a few years ago - hope it still is. Although it's a Thalasotherapy place mmmmm..... It was fab!!

Do not stay at the Ibis St Malo. We did last year with youngest DD in a cot for 1 night and she caught head lice yuk yuk!!

The novotel looks great but unfortunately with the £/euro exchange rate being so rubbish its a bit too expensive now. c.£140/room.

I would recommend staying within the old town (inside the walls). The atmosphere is great, and there isn't a lot of traffic (many of the roads are pedestrian only for most of the day).

We stayed at the Hotel l'Univers in Place Chateaubriand. They have a good selection of family rooms, a restaurant, with an outside area.

There is an Avenue Chateaubriand as well, with hotels, but it is outside the walled city.
