Affordable activity (watersports?) holiday for family of 6 during summer holiday

I guess I'm talking Sunsail but not at Sunsail prices! We have 4 children (more fool us when it comes to affording holidays!)aged 12, 11, 7/8 and 3 - or they will be by the summer. The older 2 are at an age where they need more than sea and sand to keep them happy, although they still want sea and sand (and I want sunshine!) We don't need childcare but we do need activities, through which the children will also make friends.

Anyone got any bright ideas? The children keep saying they want to go to Greece but I was hoping someone could tell me about a relatively unknown beach resort womewhere where dinghy sailing, windsurfing, snorkelling, etc was available for children. I don't mind booking travel, accommodation and activities separately, ie it doesn't need to be all-inclusive, although I suppose with the exchange rate as it is at the moment that might work out cheaper in the long run.

Apologies for the lengthy message. Looking forward to hearing about some hidden gems of seaside (or lakeside) resorts!

In return, can I recommend the little-known ski company Ski Magic for families with very small children who want to go skiing? Before we were tied to school holidays we used to travel with them in the first week of the season and it was about half the price of any other ski holiday, and far more personal than your Mark Warners...

In terms of Greece, Vassiliki in Lefkas has a great reputation for windsurfing. I haven't any personal experience of the place but it is a "serious windsurf" place, iyswim, rather than piddling around with pedaloes and other beach paraphenalia (sp?) etc!

Lefkas in general is nice (altho I would avoid Nidri which is very touristy and full of english package operators, imo). Beaches on the east coast tend to be pebbly but sandy elsewhere. Vassiliki is almost certainly a sandy beach.

Fly to Preveza and its a 30 minute drive to the island (you drive along a very scenic causeway onto the island so not technically an island!!).

Thanks for the Ski Magic tip....we usually go with Esprit and have already been to Belle Plagne this year but will definitely check out that company for next year

okay.....I was wrong about the beach - its pebbles and shingle .

Thank you for this suggestion. I happen to know Vassiliki from my young, free and single yacht-chartering days and it is seriously windy - I suspect not a beginners' resort. But any more ideas welcome! Thanks again.
