Suggestions somewhere hottish for late May with 3 yr-old?

We are thinking of going away for a week in late May. Up until now we have visited family or gone away with friends - but we never get to go somewhere we would actually have chosen for a holiday IYSWIM.

We've lived overseas (Africa/ME) and were big travellers pre-dd. I'm a lot more anxious now though and can't imagine doing that kind of travelling with dd.

But - we would like to reclaim a tiny bit of our former life back. We were thinking about a week in Tunisia - but the resort hotels look very noisy and we would be trapped there all week and every night. Not sure that would work (be great for 3 days...).

Any ideas?

How about Kefalonia?
Very safe
Quiet - no big resorts
Very child friendly
Easy to drive around and cheap car hire
Lovely beaches
Good weather in May

We always stay in Skala on the South East coast.

Turkey? We've been the last couple of years for a couple of weeks at the end of May, the weather is great- I much prefer it to Tunisia.

Will look at Kefalonia. I've been to the Greek islands quite a lot but dh never has and I haven't been to that one.

We have lived in Turkey and we wanted to go somewhere new. Have you been to Tunisia? Problem is that when I lived in the ME I avoided tourist hotspots like the plague - too much hassle. That's what I'm not sure of about say Sousse in Tunisia. My tolerance for hassle is not what it was...

I think dh especially will want something to visit - some ancient but of rock or such like. For me - sitting in the sun at a cafe is my idea of heaven.
