Where have you successfully holidayed with your toddler?

Right, here's the thing: I don't really like going on holiday. However, I recognise that my family do, so I am happy to go. Pre-dd, dh and I used to do beach holidays in the main, until one year I got sunstroke, which terrified me, and I now have a bit of a heat-related phobia.

We took dd to mainland Spain last year with my parents in July, and had a perfectly nice time, although I spent most of the holiday worrying about whether she was too hot, taken enough fluids, what if she got ill, yada yada yada. I also disliked being in a hotel room (she was 14mo at the time), as it was so restrictive for a toddler.

I was contemplating a villa holiday this year, but what I would really like to do, is something different. I considered skiing, but have come to the conclusion dd is still a bit little.

Does anyone have any suggestions??

Disclaimer: I am not really a whinging old bag in RL.

  1. camping le Bois masson in St jean de monts, vendee (slightly warmer than Brittany! - it was very British and a bit too big for us! Had to drive to a beacha nd restauarant terrace was on a main road!
  1. camping Mane guerenhue in baden, Gulf of Morbihan Brittany. Lovely site, had 3 fishing lakes, fab pool complex, a filed of donkeys and some goats! restaruant was great and you could walk into the village wiht a restaurant, PO, butchers etc. Only draw back was a hill on site but I would go back. Had to drive to a beach. Great toys nearby.
  1. Camping Village la plage, le Guilvenic, Brittany. Great location as site joined the beach. Pool basic and restauarant /takeaway OK. Basic site wbut beach location is fab!
safe for kids.
  1. Camping Acapulco, St jean de Monts. Great site - fab pool, can walk to a local beach (drive to main resort one) . 5 mins walk from supermarket in small 'centre' with PO, bakers etc. restarant and other facilities were excelennt. Would go back. S Jean de Monts is a very good location - loads to do nearby.
  1. camping les deux fontaines, raguenes, brittany. Lovely site anwith great pool complex and a walk to the beach - about 10 - 15 mins. Restauarant and takeaway weren't very good but loads of free space, fields and play areas for DCs. Close to lovely towns and the next town had a fab restauarant.

I always preferred the overnight ferries too - with a cabin of course!! We always did Portsmouth - St malo and it was fantastic. Expensive but fantastic!!!

We always stay in a mobile as I like to have my own bathroom!!! And I've seen tents after a thunderstorm so I'm a woose!!!

Most companies are the same in general but sometimes the cheaper ones have older mobiles!! I go with canvas cos you can use Tesco vouchers with them and get free hols!
