Where to go in Portugal with dh and two kids aged 9 and 7 in summer?

Thinking of going to Portugal in Summer hols, not been before was wondering what areas are child friendly but not too busy . Any recommendations would be very grateful. We would be looking at staying in a villa with own pool if possible.

We love Lagos, loads of villas to rent. A lovely resort, we have been back 3 times!! Portuguese are very good with children, and there are loads of lovely restaurants. Beaches are fab. Check out ownersdirect or holidaylettings for villas.

Loads of lovely places in the Algarve, we have been twice, first to Vilamoura which is based around a marina, not the best place for beaches etc. Last year we rented a villa in Dunas Douradas which was gorgeous, could walk to the beach, loads of lovely restaurants. Hoping to go back there this year, really a fab destination for families (our dcs similar age to yours and love it)

We stayed in a little village called Guia outside Albufeira. Rented a villa with a pool through Travillas and had a lovely time.

There is a waterpark near there, as well as Zoomarine (a sort of aquarium park with seals, dolphins etc). We found Portugal very child friendly, lots of places to eat and potter around.
