how was it?

was the port in Amsterdam near to the centre?

we're looking at a 2 night special, we wouldn't have much time in Amsterdam - do you think its worth it?

thanks

I haven't but I have a German friend who does it regularly with two under 5. I'm actually planning to call her tonight, so will ask her for you if you like. She usually gets an overnight crossing and a cabin I think and then drives on in the morning to Germany.

We have taken the ferry often (in the other direction when we lived in Germany).

The port is a good bit out of Amsterdam. As far as I remember there is a bus / train into town.

I think that it would be a bit rushed, tbh. Especially with kids. It depends on the age of the DC. If you were juggli g buggies etc then I would not do it. With older DC then maybe.

The little town of Imjuden is nice though. If the weather was good you could spend the day on the beach and have a wander around the town. Lots of lovely beach bars to sit inwhile the DC play in the sand.

The ferry itself is ok, they have a small playarea.

Ask for a cabin as far away from the disco as possible. One trip we were right below it and were in bed by 8pm (dd was a baby). We endured 3 hours of boomboomboom before asking to move cabins.

There's a bus transfer from the ferry terminal to amsterdam centraal station, the journey takes about 30 min on bus, plus faffing around time. Ijmuiden could be nice for a weekend / two day break in the summer , but I think might be a bit miserable if it was crap weather.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner ssd, though it sounds as if you've got some useful information here anyway. My pal said that her kids (4 and 2) love the trip and the cabin (they have bunk beds for the kids). She suggested that if you do decide to go, get as good a cabin as you can afford, and take your own food - she paid 16 quid for a burger and a few chips and 5 euros for a cup of coffee on board! And as the others suggest, she reckoned 20-30 mins to Amsterdam from the port.

I agree with MExpress's friend, we normally take a picnic on board as the meals are not great and very expensive.
