HELP!!! Someone find me an August holiday for 4 for under £1k ?????

mosschops30 · 09/02/2009 18:12

We have booked our holiday early this year (May) as was hoping to be pg but its not happened yet so looks like we can squeeze in a week in August.

I am pretty good at using the normal travel operators but pants at knowing what to do separately. I cannot find anything under £1000 for August with the tour operators and just wondered if anyone had any ideas??

Its for 2 adults and 2 children
Any week in August
Will fly from pretty much anywhere within 3 hours of Cardiff (which only rules out Newcastle and Scotland)
Somewhere shorthaul, and just a nice break. Even 5 nights would be fine if we cant get 7

TIA

Bumping because I'd like to know too.

DaisyMooSteiner · 09/02/2009 18:23

Have you looked at Aldi holidays? I was reading an article about them in the Guardian this morning and they sounded quite good.

mosschops30 · 09/02/2009 18:35

Will take a look thanks.

Any other suggestions? Dont mind flying with sleazyjet etc

Have just looked at OnTheBeach website - flying from Cardiff to Gran Canaria - 17th August for a week has come out at £1,317. I know it is a little over budget, but I didn't think it was bad for August.

duckyfuzz · 09/02/2009 19:16

mobile home in south of France any good?

mosschops30 · 09/02/2009 19:26

bellavita, its waaayy over. We have already paid £1500 for 2 weeks in May, if we go in August it has to be under £100. I think Gran Canaria would be a bit hot in August, was thinking more mainland spain or balaerics.

No not France, and I think we'd be hard pushed to get a mobile home for under a grand in August

mosschops30 · 09/02/2009 19:27

oops meant £1000 not £100, thats a bit too far lol

bellavita · 09/02/2009 19:39

Right, have just put in balaerics - flying from cardiff 18th August - how about £1051?

bellavita · 09/02/2009 19:40

oh just seen you have put under £1000 - tbh I think you may be hard pushed in August.

Book on your own
Find some cheapo flights on skyscanner.net and book an apartment with Owners direct or someone

morningpaper · 09/02/2009 19:51

I don't think you will do it - maybe last year, but this year the pound is too weak

look at UK instead

pointydog · 09/02/2009 19:52

look up aldi hols. They were advertising some bargains a few weeks ago

CountessDracula · 09/02/2009 19:56

you can fly for 540 to alicante on 30 July
then get something like this for £395
(no idea if that is a nice area but just as an eg

CountessDracula · 09/02/2009 19:57

and the good thing about owners direct is you pay in GBP often so no EUR issues

mosschops30 · 09/02/2009 20:01

Thanks CD I hadnt thought about a villa of our own! But I think for something like that we'd need to add in car hire too.

I have seen a few on teletext holidays online for under £900 they are probably nasty, but at least the sun will be shining.

Bellavita - where did you get that from, thats a great price, and tbh we would probably go back to Majorca. Dont mind flying from Gatwick as it seems to be cheaper

mp I will not be holidaying in the UK - EVER!!

OP posts:
pointydog · 09/02/2009 20:12

ahem. nothing wrong with th euk

mosschops30 · 09/02/2009 20:15

I can think of lots thats wrong with the UK but that could be a whole other thread

I have found some great ones on the Aldi site, its really good. £852 for a 3* in mainland spain, will take me ages to look at all these though, and some of the trip advisor reviews are less than complimentary

I agree about trying independent places. There are a lot of people with houses abroad and probably mroe supply than demand - even in August. Might be worth looking at. We are off for a week's skiing soon, and the flights for 4 came to £250 with Easyjet, we will need hire car (£150 possibly) and the place we are staying in goes for £250 a week. Not saying that it would work for you (it is in France!) but you might find similar costings for destinations that interest you.

mosschops30 · 09/02/2009 20:26

so is the owners direct the best to go to for villas?

OP posts:
morningpaper · 09/02/2009 20:33

Mainland Spain in August will be unbearably hot

What would you do?

bellavita · 09/02/2009 20:33

the website is called OnTheBeach

FlorenceAndtheWashingMachine · 09/02/2009 21:07

Mosschops, if you have no luck elsewhere and and can embrace France, I have found a mobile home in southern Brittany for £498 (that's for the four of you not per person). That's August 22nd-29th and includes a channel crossing (or you can take £90 off and organise your own).
