Looking for recommendations of places to go, things to see
We won't be doing Disney as they are too young

Legoland isn't too far from there (maybe 90min drive?).

Look up state parks, California probably has a website. You might find a hilly walk to suit you.

You could consider a day trip to Catalina Island, too.
