and it was amazing. Mahoosive thanks to madame castafiore for recommending Clos Maggiore, we had the most amazing romantic dinner, the best food I have ever tasted, and service that exceeded all my expectations.

Thanks to the mumsnetters who helped me choose the hotel (Beauchamp in Russel Sq) which was also lovely, reasonably priced I thought and central with everything we needed close by.

For someone who thought they didnt like London (terrified of the tube, but actually came to love it ) I cant wait to go again

Mosschops DH and I had a weekend away in london last weekend and came away feeling the same as you..
I felt like we had seen London through new eyes, avoiding oxford street and the madness really helped us.
we stayed at the rookery in farringdon
and ate at smiths of smithfield

will make a note of your weekend break as DH and I very much want to do it all again soon

greyskull, your hotel looks beautiful, however is much more expensive than ours. But I thought it was great for London which is always overpriced.
Did you do a show?

Think we will go again this year, it was such a lovely break and a lot less stressful than I imagined it would be

moss - our room cost £150 inc vat
we didn't do a show - we went on a sundown flight on the london eye then walked along south bank thames walk to tate modern to see the rothko exhibition. (LOvely without children ) then we went for dinner.

I think we will try to go again, infact from your post I was looking at prices of the Beauchamp for May time. Thanks for the inspiration for other hotels

Oh thats very good then, because they were much more on their site. The Beuachamp was lovely.
And the restaurant was the best I have ever been to (even beating our fave in Sydney!!).

We did a dusk flight on the eye too, I was terrified at first but you soon get used to it dont you, fantastic views. I would like to do some more stuff next time, definately another show and would like to do the Jack the Ripper tour and the British Transport museum. Too much for one weekend Glad you enjoyed too
