Plymouth - a good place for a stag weekend ?

Hi, my dh and his friends are planning a stag for later this year (Oct). It will involve a group of 10-20 guys flying from Ireland and Plymouth has come up as an option but none of us know much about it. Can anyone tell me if it would be a good spot? Is it a friendly town with plenty of good pubs etc? Are there any interesting activities they could do during the day (watch a footie match, go-karting.....) and if anyone can recommend any good websites that would be great.

I lived in Plymouth a few years ago and its a Navy town (although a lot of the sailors will be away). The nightlife is pretty much one road. Plymouth has a football team in the Second Division called Argyle. The football ground isn't too far out of town. Not sure about the go-karting. The nightlife isn't too bad (a lot better than Portsmouth where I live anyway). If they are flying anyway why not go to Newcastle? Fantastic nightlife and plenty to do. Personally I would go to Newcastle. There are direct flights to and from Dublin. My dp went to Dublin for a stag weekend from Newcastle. The local paper in Plymouth has a website www.thisisplymouth.co.uk. Can't do links sorry.
