What to do in Birmingham?

I am taking the dc (4yo and 7mo) to Birmingham on Saturday to meet up withh their grandparents- we live very far away from each other and Birmingham is halfway iyswim. I don't particuarly want to spend the whole day shopping, but bearing in mind we will all be arriving on the train, and hence will have no car, what kind of things are there to do? Dd is fixated on dinosaur museums since we took her to the Natural History Museum. Is there anything similar nearby?

The interactive place ThinkTank at the Waterpoint is fab, and really loads to do there. Its a 10 minute walk from the Bullring, and you get 30% off if you have gone by train

No dinosaurs but we do have:

Sealife centre - about 2 hours (but quite pricely)
Millenium POint - big hands-on museum of transport/industry/technology with a great soft/water play area for littlies

Both walkable from New Street Station. Will keep thinking

Think Tank and Millenium pont = the same thing.

Second (third?) Thinktank. It's amazing!

cmotdibbler what kind of carrier are you using on your profile? I am desperate for something similar for ds. And these suggestions sound brilliant so far

4 year old will love the interactive play bit at Think Tank, similarly will like the fish at the Sea Life too, though I think you can spend longer, get more VFM at Thinktank. Oh and of course you should take them to Krispy Kreme in the Bullring, just to watch the do-nuts being made (oh ok, you might want to eat a few)

The one of me with DS asleep ? Thats a toddler sized TaiTasi. DH is modelling a ToddlerHawk - both are also available in baby sized too

There's a cool thing to do at the BBC studios in the Mailbox. You can pretend to present the weather forecast, using an autocue, and be filmed at the same time. It is great fun.

Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery has a drop in children's craft club type thing on Saturdays - its free and might pass an hour here

Thinktank is great thoughp

we used to have a dinosaur exhibition at Birmingham Museum - when did that go? Think Tank is a must.

I didnt know about the BBC thing - will look at that myself.

Your profile says you are in south west, will your train be coming through Bournville? The station is literally next door to Cadbury World although a walk to the entrance would take about 10 mins. www.cadburyworld.co.uk/CadburyWorld/planningyourvisit/Pages/Directions.aspx?TabIndex=1
