HELP! Tenerife in March - where can we stay with 11-month-old?

Hi - I'm looking for a hotel for me, DH and DS (11 months) in Tenerife in March. Ideally we want a baby-friendly hotel where we can get a suite-style room with a separate sleeping area. Ideally it would be a hotel that offers a babysitting service and that is in a non-tacky resort where you can walk out to nice bars and restaurants (not a place with Irish pubs and fish and chips, if you know what I mean!). DS is too young for kids clubs as such so don't have to stay anywhere with evening children's entertainment. I don't know the island so realy struggling to find somewhere and want to book soon. Don't want to go self catering as we wouldn't be able to leave DS with a babysitter and go out for dinner.

Hi, we're going to Costa Los Gigantes Suites and Spa resort on Sunday, never been before, but sounds like you are after the same thing as us. We booked through First Choice. Might be worth a look, and I'll let you know what we thought next week!

As promised, thought I'd let you know of our experience. The suites and hotel were fantastic, brand new, very clean, great service. It's an all inclusive place so no hidden extras, food was excellent and plentiful, pools were beautiful and warm, very safe environment for young kids and a great outdoor soft play area on site. Evenings were spent on the balcony or watching dvd's on the huge brand new tv's in both rooms. Short walk down to beach (10 mins)which was small and shelved steeply into the sea so not great for little ones, but nice to play on and people watch. I would definately recommend it as it was really quiet when we were there for half term, presumably because its new, (but got much busier at the weekend for Spainish half term) was lovely and clean, the service was great, and there was loads of families with young kids so we didn't feel self conscious in the restaurants or anything when DD wasn't quite playing the game (a-hem!)

Hi Headless

We have booked this hotel for our summer holiday. Are there Dvd players in room or did you have to take your own.

Thanks

Hi Marbeth, sorry for delayed reply. We took our own DVD player (£50 from ebay...blooming useful on the plane too..)and just played it through their tv. The tv channels you can get are rubbish, basically just Sky news and Spainish tv, so definately worth taking your own. I'm very jealous that you're going there for summer hols, I hope you have great time.

We have just booked this hotel too for may half term week so great to see another positive review as all the reviews on trip advisor are really good too. Looking forward to it.
Did your DD use the kids club headless as interested to know what the staffing levels like? Have never left my DD in a club alone before but nearly 6 and I do not think she will want me hanging around this time!!

headless · 10/03/2009 20:23

Hi gibba8,
Another person making me jealous! DD didn't use kiddie club as she's only 21 months, but plenty did. I can't comment on the staffing levels, only that the staff looked very enthusiastic and spoke nicely to the kids (as you'd expect really!) The kids movie club looked very popular every evening, as did the mini disco (lots of bad dad dancing!!) so I think your 6 year old should have a ball. In terms of security, the play area which is next to tennis courts/mini golf was completely high-fenced, and there was a security guard posted at the gate which led out to the road/down to beach. trying to think of any other useful bits....someone on trip advisor recommended blocks K,L and M, and we stayed in K, this over looks the quieter of the 2 big pools (not the snack bar one), had great views of La Gomera and in our opinion seemed a fair recommendation, but all the other blocks looked good too...the one closest to the play area was still being furnished, but I forget which one this was. No building work, just looked like tiling and stuff like that inside the actual suites. Anyway, if I go on much more it'll take all the excitement out of it!!! Have a great time (and make the most of the fab spa!)

Thanks for that-really looking forward to it-it is not often you get all goods reviews on trip advisor. Think the only negative comments were about cold food but as long as there are microwaves to warm it up I do not mind!
