Have booked a table at Clos Maggiore for this weekend, after madame castafiore recommended.
When I rang they said the dress code is smart/casual, I mean what the hell is that supposed to mean.

What I really want to know is can me and dh wear smart jeans and smart shoes (dh will be in a shirt obviously) or if I decide to go in trousers can dh still wear jeans and shoes? It will be a pre-theatre dinner

I would have thought it means no jeans or trainers or round-necked t-shirts for men. So polo shirt / shirt and trousers for men, but no need for tie or jacket

damn really? friend of mine thought smart jeans would be fine

I think these days smart jeans in a dark indigo wash is fine - especially with glamorous heels and a slinky evening top.

Oh, sorry maybe the heels and slinky top wouldn't apply to your dh but yes, indigo jeans with smart leather shoes and a shirt would be fine for him.
