Where's better - Languedoc near Pezenas or Provence near Tourtour?

Can't decide between these 2 areas and wondered if anyone has been to both?

What are the villages, scenery, things to do for kids.... ? We'd be going in peak summer season if that makes any difference.

Bumping for you.

I can only speak for Languedoc as that is where my parents' villa is (bit closer to the coast than Pezenas but not too far from there) but we love the Languedoc, mainly because there is SO much to see and do locally. My parents send a really good guide of things to do and see with children when they rent the villa to families, and they have had great feedback about how much families enjoy the area.

We obviously love it but its always good to hear from their guests!

So, I would happily recommmend the Languedoc.

The other thing to note is that the Languedoc can be a bit cheaper than Provence

I've been to both areas and would definitely recommend Pezenas.

Fantastic town with amazing market and close to loads of other places and beautiful coastline with miles of sandy beaches.

Badpups, thanks!
what did you make of Provence in comparison? I had it in my head that Provence would be more beautiful, nicer villages etc? Lavander fields and all that...
Also was worried that the coastline there was a bit open windy and flat.

In provence we could be near Brignoles or Villecroze or languedoc just outside pezenas. Do you think Pezenas area offers more?
Sorry to bombard you with questions, just fab to know someone has been to both and can compare!

We've been to both. Pezenas and surrounding areas are much more interesting, imo. Provence would get very overcrowded in high season too, I imagine.

thanks, another vote for Pezenas!! You're challenging my preconceptions here...

Languedoc would be my choice. Pezenas is very pretty! La Carabasse is a good campsite as well.

We did Provence - and if you are there you MUST visit the Gorges du Verdun

ChampagneDahling · 29/01/2009 12:58

I would definitely recommend Languedoc too.

I think it depends what you're looking for. Languedoc is less commercialised - I've heard people say that it's the way Provence was 20 years ago! I love Provence but the Languedoc feels less touristy and more French in a way. I suppose the Languedoc region is slightly less prosperous - some towns can be slightly shabby looking - but there's loads of money being invested in the region by the French government at the moment.

The Languedoc is also the world's largest wine producing area!!
