hotel recommendations? (ideally 4 or 5* as for a special occasion...)

which agent / website to use to book?

what to do when we get there? (thinking 2 nights so hopefully 3 days)

Barcelona is great but we will never ever ever be able to afford a 4 or 5 star hotel, so no help there.

Walk along the Ramblas (hopefully fewer hen parties now), visit the barrio gotico and the narrow little streets around the cathedral, some great museums, walk around the harbour and look at the huge yatchs ...

Take a local train from Paseo de Gracia and visit the Montserrat monastry up in the mountains.

Your budget is obviously very different to ours, but for those who need to make the money go further, the best genuinely Catalan food we had was in the station restaurant. (Decor and atmosphere 0/10 though)

Thanks for that racingsnake. (when i look into prices might see that i'm being unrealistic with regards to hotel ratings)

narow streets, harbour, cathedral all sound great - getting excited!

Very famous covered market too, just off las Ramblas. I have forgotten its name but displays of food amazing.

Went two years back pre DS with a girlfriend for a weekend trip [those were the days... ] We stayed at Grand Hotel Centrale - fab 4 star in Gothic quarter. Recommend Picasso Museum nearby and also Taller de Taps @ Plaça Sant Josep Oriol 9, Barri Gòtic for dinner - great food and wine and reasonably priced and 5 mins walk round the corner from the hotel. Have fun!
