Edinburgh Airport to Glasgow city centre - by bus or train?

Does anyone know the best way to get from Edinburgh Airport to Glasgow? Will I have to go into Edinburgh or can I get a bus or train straight to Glasgow?

If you want to go by train, you'd need to head into Edinburgh city centre first. You'd need to get the airport bus or taxi there.

AFAIK the Citylink bus to Glasgow does go out along the main road closest to the airport but it isn't a 2 minute walk!

I would think your best bet would be to head into the city centre and then you could get the train or bus from there.

That was what I was hoping to avoid. If it is not far to the bus stop then I would walk, I will not have much luggage. Or take a taxi. It would still be a lot quicker than going in and out of Edinburgh.

It's been a while since I was there so forgive me if my info is vague but as I recall, it really is a bit of a walk. Plus you'd need to time it with the buses. You could always take the airport bus/taxi as far as Haymarket? THen you have the option of hte bus or train but not hit the hell of Shandwick Place/Princes Street?

I'll try and remember to bump this later as I'm sure some of the EB MNers may have more/better info (Nailpolish, Maw Broon, AGalchangedhername?)

This may help

MmeLindt · 23/01/2009 14:30

Thanks, Fimbo. A lot of options on there.

I think I might take a taxi to the main road, it is only about 2 miles away as far as I can see on Google maps. Then the bus through to Glasgow.

Otherwise my Dad would pick me up, take me to Glasgow then go home to Dundee. I don't really want him to go to all the hassle and the long drive.

Megabus goes from Edinburgh airport to Perth, you could pick up the train or bus from there to Glasgow.

i live quite near the airport
if i were you id get the airport bus (they are very frequent) but not go into princes st (the tramworks are a NIGHTMARE) but get off at haymarket and get the train to glasgow
there are trains every 15 minutes

nailpolish · 23/01/2009 14:37

OR

you could even just get the airport bus to corstorphien and change onto a glasgow bus in corstorphine
both buses stop at greggs the bakers and at the drumbrae roundabout and at the marriot hotel

nailpolish · 23/01/2009 14:38

if you tell me when your flight gets in ill pick you up if i am free

MmeLindt · 23/01/2009 17:17

Nailpolish
Oooh, we could meet in Greggs for a sausage roll

I think I will get the bus into Haymarket then the train rather than the bus as I cannot read on the bus.

I am flying over for my SIL's henny night in Glasgow. We are going to see Boyzone.
