After 2 years of dire camping in UK we want to go somewhere this summer where there is SUN. Reason I'm thinking Turkey is that apparently the poor pound is not so bad there as with Euro countries and we will be on a tight budget.

Can anyone recommend a good place to go? We want the simple things only; sand, sea and sun, hotel or apartment, and although I have never done a package before am told that this is the cheapest way to do it right now. Not too worried about stars (backpacked across the world and used to roughing it) but obviously nothing next to a building site, motorway, airport etc! Won't need ents or kids clubs or anything like that.

Suppose I'm after good family friendly places to go to and then I can do a last minute search under resorts/towns?

Have a look at Akyaka. Small Turkish village, sandy beach and shallow sea. Yucelen Hotel is on the beach with duck pond in the garden. A few cheaper hotels with H4U. Also English lady in resort who does babysitting. look at www.akyaka.com for lots of accomadation and ideas. Well recommended.

ooh yes, akyaka is really lovely and we walked round the hotel that the previous poster mentioned, it's very pretty. There are some amazing restaurants there and it's very unspoilt. We stayed at the Tomsan villas which at the time was under simply travel but can now be booked independently and they are very nice, quite simple but spotless and well managed. There is a nice pool and they serve good turkish bar food there.

The other nice places are The Tamarisk Beach hotel in ortakent which is available through Crystal active but it has become extremely sporty. Thomson have just taken over the hotel next door, Eski Yali and from what I can see it looks like it's the same as the tamarisk beach hotel but much quieter, I think that it is owned by the same people. www.eskiyalihotel.com/

Would heartily recommend Patara on the Turquoise coast - quiet village, gorgeous beach & very friendly people. I stay at the Viewpoint hotel when I go - if you put it through Google you'll see what I mean. It's cheap-ish to fly if you book flights in advance.
