We are off to Cuba in April. We will be staying on the Cayo Islands. We have concerns about the milk being pasturised, being able to use water, food etc etc...
Has anyone been to Cuba with their small children and how did they find it?

I took my DS a year ago-he was 1. We stayed in Varadero and it was the worst holiday ever as the wee fella was ill for 11 days out of the 14 with chronic diarrohea. Had to get the doctor out to the room and he was taken to hospital in the end as he was dehydrated. The hospital was just as you would imagine in a poor country. There was no milk to buy in the supermarket-only coffee mate???
I would just check there are adequate medical facilities before you go as you never know. Sorry to be the voice of doom but just giving an honest opinion.
On a positive note, the cubans are amazing people and Havana is a special place.

I have been to Cuba a few times, once with ds when he was about 4.

Yes, it is a poor country and yes, problems with supplies, but Cuba has some of the worlds best trained doctors and child health is better than in many developed countries. It's more about being careful, as you might be anywhere with small children, making sure fruit is washed properly, bottles sterilised and food well cooked.

The cubans are amongst the most friendly people anywhere in the world and would do anything for children. As long as you take plenty of milk powder and sterilising tablets and a firt aid kit with calpol, rehydration sachets etc just to be safe, I'm sure you'll have a fabulous time.
