Ile de Re in July or August?

we have previously holidayed in Ile de Re in May/June when it is lovely and quiet but still good weather. However, this year we are unable to take dd's out of school so have to go in the summer hols.

Anyone been in July/August? I know the French all take their holidays in August, just wondered how busy it was - thinking of going last 2 weeks in Aug.... or if it's better and quieter in July?
any advice welcomed!

BUSY
Last two weeks in August possibly better as I think in general most French families don't start their hols that late

My French friends have a holiday home over there (lucky things!)and we often go and spend some time with them the last week of August when the rest of their family goes home. The very last week is usually a bit quieter, but still pretty busy.

We went in the middle of August in 2007 and last night I booked for us to go the last week in August!

When we were last there the weather wasn't great so that might have made it quieter, but I didn't find it too bad.

I had imagined empty cycle tracks and of course there are lots of other people but not traffic jams. And when the weather was OK the beach was not as packed as a British beach.

Think the camp site was pretty full, but didn't seem to bother us.

We only ate out at lunchtime, and despite probably picking some real tourist traps we always found a table.
