Passport and maiden name

DD's and I are going away in a fwe months and, as I have to pay over £90 for their passports, I can't afford teh £72 to amend my passport from my maiden name.
I've been married 4 years but do I need to change the name or can I travel on my maiden name? It is in date and everything but only has a few years left so I resent paying if I dont have to.

I have been married a lot longer than you and have never changed my passport. MInd you, I still use my maiden name for everything.

beanieb · 13/01/2009 08:26

I think if you have booked your tickets in your maiden name you'll be ok.

GooseyLoosey · 13/01/2009 08:26

Don't you know anyone who falls into one of the job descriptions of people who can sign?

ChirpyGirl · 13/01/2009 08:29

HAve double checked lists and do know some people, it's a lot longer than when I got mine!
All my other ID is in my married name, including credit cards, so I think I am going to have to pay it, it's just so unfair that I only want to change my name and yet have to pay for a whole new pasport, grrrr.

Mine is in my maiden name, i just take my marriage certificate with me and book all tickets in maiden name. Never had a problem and i have been married longer than you. I still have some credit cards etc in maiden name as well.

ChirpyGirl · 13/01/2009 08:49

But I can't book tickets in ym maiden name as all my cards are in my married name because they are on DH's account, so I am screwed.

It shouldn't matter that your credit card is in a different name to your passport. They should just ask you at the point of booking for the full names of the people that are traveling, and at this point you give your maiden name.

I never bothered changing the name on my passport and never had any problems with booking flights. Once a work colleague booked a plane for me in my married name, not knowing that my passport was still in my maiden name and all she had to do was contact the airline to change the name before I travelled.

HeadFairy · 13/01/2009 09:02

I've never changed my name on my passport either as I renewed it just before my honeymoon and was too tight to pay to get a new one with my married name. I do have credit cards with my maiden and married names on too, but I don't think it matters if the name on the credit card paying for the tickets doesn't match the name on the tickets as my mum has paid for a flight in my name using her credit card with a different name.

Really? NOone has had problems?

ok, shall do that then and take marriage certificate. As a bonus, my mum is paying (it is me, her and the dd's going) and she has given me her credit card details ot pay outright, so that's ok!

Credit card doesn't have to match passport. Just tickets have to match passport.

gemmiegoatlegs · 13/01/2009 09:15

I went abroad last year, been married 2 years and passport in my maiden name. Dozy dh booked the holiday using my married name but I didn't realise until last minute. Luckily I had marriage cert with me (just in case0 and showed it to staff on check in. The airport staff in italy diidn;'t even check! I also have my driving licence in my maiden name and one savings account. I don't know the legal implications of using two names but i figure they're both my name and its not like I'm applying for credit or bank accounts with my maiden name.

Ripeberry · 13/01/2009 09:22

Just make sure that the plane tickets or reservations are in your MAIDEN name.
A few years ago we all went on holiday and my passport was still in my maiden name but we had been married for 2yrs.
Once we got to the check-in they refused to give me a plane ticket and i had to go off to another desk to get things sorted and it took hours!
But eventually they let us board, but we almost missed the flight!

ChirpyGirl · 13/01/2009 09:27

You know, logically, I know that it's the tickets that have to match, but my tiny brain weas still panicking!
Just dd's ticket passports then....
