Bumping for you.

My brother and his gf went a couple of years ago and loved it. Their photos were amazing and it looked utterly beautiful.

Parents went and loved it. It looked quite 'Italian' to me. Nice beaches and boat trips, not sure about the food though.

Also DH's best friend (recently reunited) moved out there to teach sailing and really loves it....

Yes, we went about 5 years ago and it was fabulous. Dubrovnic is stunning, the coast line is amazing, weather fab and just a really great and interesting destination - highly recommend it. The only down side is that the food wasn't up to much but we couldn't have cared less...actually, there was some great seafood but the hotel food pretty rubbish. Anyway, apart from that I'd say it was wonderful and we are thinking of going again this year.

I am in Budapest and lots and lots of people from here have been and go back again and again. Two lots of friends have even bought property there.

Be warned that the beaches are not sandy though - there is one sandy beach but I am not sure which one!

we went to Dubrovnic in 1989 (whilst it was still Yugoslavia) it was brilliant - totally beautiful coastline. Would go again happily

HolidaysQueen · 13/01/2009 09:47

croatia is great - been twice. dubrovnik is beautiful and the coastline and islands are lovely. also been up north near slovenian border and that is v nice too.

however generally not brilliant for beaches if that is what you want - usually stony.

Warm enough for what??? That would be a heatwave in UK!

22 is nice. Warm and sunny in the day time but cools down in evening so bring cardis/fleeces.

We went last year. Utterly fab, clean sea, gorgeous coastline. Dubrovnik very interesting but very busy. We did a fab walk within the city walls rather than on top (due to the heat) found a great cafe in the wall which sits on a shear cliff edge with incredible views. Will try to find where it was for you.

I went to Rijeka a couple of years ago but I wouldn't recommned going there as there's not much in that part - there's a marina there. We took a trip to Krk which is the nearest seaside resort but not with very sandy beaches. Have to say it seemed very cheap to us as even a main course in the hotel restuarant was only about £8 but that may have changed now. Not sure if they are in the Eurozone now or not.

That was in May 06 and it was... hot. I had to lend my x-bf my hat until he was able to buy one as he'd have crisped up otherwise.

Slovenia is lovely as well.

Have been several times pre-kids independently(Split, island hopping to Vis/Hvar, Dubrovnik, Lopud - all gorgeous especially Hvar).

Sept 07 went to Porec with my 1 & 3 year old for a week self catering (Laguna Bellevue Apartments)....loved it, very child friendly (playgrounds everywhere!), cheap (kuna not Euro) and didn't bother with a car - just pottered, lovely people (not over-run with the worst of Brits-abroad)...but we did just miss the best weather. Think May may be a bit early?

No beaches though if that's important - generally just rocky or pebbly bathing areas - in Porec they had a few man-made sandy areas for children to play on.

That said - have just booked campsite in France this year for 2 weeks as kids need a bit more to do on hand on a longer holiday
