Getting to Florence from Pisa airport....

...has anyone done this? Is it easy?

I have been to Florence, but on that occasion flew to Florence airport. I can get to Pisa from my local airport for a lot less money, so would prefer to do this.

...I have a folk memory that there is a direct train from Pisa airport, is this so, and if it is does it take a long time?

Have yet to find satisfactory interweb answers, so thought I might ask here....

I think that your folk memory is correct- train station is at Pisa airport.
Wish I was going to Florence!

yes direct train from the airport.

There is a little train station at pisa airport - I used it once to get a little local train into the main rail station in Pisa. There will definitely be direct trains from the main rail station to Florence, i am 99.9% sure of that (we caught one to Milan from there and other trains were going all over to major Italian cities.

You might even be able to get one direct from the airport station but I doubt it tbh. The little train to Pisa's main station was dead quick so not a problem anyway.

...thank you both.

Not sure that I am going yet, but it seems more likely if it is possible to travel this way!

....not going up the Duomo this time, though. I cowered, terrified, whilst various urchins peered vertiginously over the edge....

(feel a little nauseous even thinking of it!)

I am sure I got one from the airport but that was a long time ago.

Oh god don't, I remember that feeling ![vertigo emoticon]

When i caught the little local train, it was late at night, our ryanair flight had been cancelled and it was the last train of the evening so no idea what it's like during day, might well be busy and lots of trains off to everywhere!

bellabelly · 08/01/2009 23:26

Did I mention that Ryanair cancelled the flight due to non-existent fog? Grrrr! Still annoys me several years later!

...I shall be flying Sleazyjet, so everything will be fine....

Er, maybe.
