..is this going to be a problem? Does he need to renew before he goes out there? He said he has heard that this might be an issue.

TIA

It could be. If you have time to get it renewed before he goes I would definitely do this.

I would also check with his travel agent or the airline he's flying with.

Linnet · 06/01/2009 22:09

I would double check with the passport department or the Embassy or the airline or someone. You don't want him to go all the way out there and have him turned back better to be safe than sorry.

Actually, probably best to go to the US Visa website. There's a pretty good list of FAQ on there which should cover it.

The six months if from date of admission to the USA.

Would be worth checking with the airline or hte embassy.

If you have time for renewal, that would be the thing to do. They usually turn round your application within two weeks.

won't he need to do an ESTA before he goes? That will let him know for sure.

veedub · 06/01/2009 22:12

Also has he filled in the form on the ESTA website? If he is travelling after the 12th jan he will need to do this at least 3 days before flying.

schneebly · 06/01/2009 22:13

6 weeks before he goes - will get him to renew!

And if he has a passport old enough that it needs to be renewed, he may not have the right digital bits/thingies in it anyway!

LadyMuck · 06/01/2009 22:14

ESTA website suggest 90 days left on passport at date of admission I think.

Would get his passport renewed before he leaves this country.

ESTA comes into effect from January 12th of this year.
