where can we go for gentle weather and general niceness in feb?

We've had a rotten month or so and have ten days off in late Feb and really want to go somewhere mild and lovely to recuperate. We have a 2 year old so don't want too long a flight - around 6 hours would be ideal, and not too much jet lag either. Thinking of Kenya. Is there anywhere else? Will Crete or Cprus be nice at that time of year?

The Azores?

oh tell me more. I don't know anything about them.

Actually, neither do I. But my parents were talking about going there for a winter holiday, and they have great holidays. They're a Portugese dependency almost in the middle of the Atlantic, about level with the bottom of Portugal. They're in a warm ocean current so it's always nice and mild there. I shouldn't think the flight would be more than 4 hours.

Madeira could be another option if you don't mind holidaying with lots of mature people (beats young, loud and drunk IMO).

Cape Verde islands

My Dad is off in search of sun and he is going to Cape Verde. Not my thing, but after his research it seems that he will be assured of sun.

oh they look intriguing. I've no idea where to even start picking an island and a hotel. Cape Verde looks nice too, but ds does have a tendency to get sick on holidays so am nervous about being somewhere too remote or small. Mind you he was fine in Africa and got hospitalised in Sydney.

I would recommend Madeira too. Beautiful island, lovely weather and less than 4 hours away.

I'm not sure about Cape Verde, but both Madeira and the Azores would be fine for hospitals. My Dad has multiple health problems (including regular dialysis) so they can only go to places that have high quality healthcare available. My Mum is well researched in 'safe' places to travel to.

Madeira is lovely - quite pricey though, esp with the pound so low. We went there years ago and loved it.

donnie · 06/01/2009 20:52

the Canaries will be nice in February as well.

ooh madeira or azores look lovely. Bran, your parents should open up their own travel agency! Sure there is a demand for safe but nice holidays.
