Will be joining the throngs of families who are now limited to going on their main holiday during the school summer holdays so was wondering of you have a preference re when you go? Do you go away as soon as the kids break up from scool or wait a week to get over end of term tiredness? Or do you go right at the end of the holidays? Thoughts or opinions please!

We normally do early or very end as it is cheaper and we tend to have slightly longer holidays than the majority so quieter.

right at the end is generally cheaper.

We literally pick up from school on last day of term and head off. Tis the most expensive fortnight though. Last 2 weeks of summer hols tends to be cheaper, and resorts (in France anyway) quieter.

depends where you are going certain parts of Europe (e.g. Scotland and the Netherlands), schools go back mid-August so local prices drop.
