Cost of rail tickets to France in August - for e.g. to Toulouse

Does anyone know v. roughly how much it would be for train tickets to somehwere like Toulouse in August?

We would be going from Ashford on Eurostar, 2 adults & 1 child.

ATM you can only view fares up to March and I assume in August will be quite a lot more.

I telephoned to ask about tickets to Cannes and was told that raileurope did not know and could only assume that it would be 'quite a bit more'. I was advised that the best way to get the cheapest ticket is to go onto the website 90 days before the date of the return journey and book asap.

Thanks Racingsnake - I am just bumping this because I posted it late the other night and hopefully someone might be around tonight who knows....

FK

Look at www.seat61.com - fantastic website for this kind of question.

Tickets aren't necessarily more expensive in Summer, but the cheap advance fares do sell out very quickly (ESPECIALLY at weekends) The 90 days is key, you need to ring 90 days before you go on your calendar and book then. The tricky bit is that the outward leg is obviously available before the return, so you have to wait until 90 days before your return...

It is also very much worth looking at booking separately Ashford>Paris and Paris>Toulouse, might be cheaper or might not, but worth a look! (I'd normally advise looking at Lille changes as well, but Toulouse is very poorly served via Lille).

Also check Ebbsfleet as opposed to Ashford, much more choice of trains.

Cheapest you'll get is about £100 return (a bit less for the children) but could easily go up to 3 times that or more. Unlike Airline fares they don't go down nearer the time, so BOOK AHEAD.

(of course these are non flexible/non refundable, so you need to be sure of dates and have Travel Insurance!)

Would be cheaper to fly I reckon. You could do Gatwick - Toulouse with easy jet or BA, or Stansted to Carcassonne (30 mins from Toulouse)with Ryanair.
