Has anyone stayed at any of these?

Opinions please!

Am considering one of these for a 1 night 'first time we have left the children in 7 years' stay and don't want to get it wrong!!!! Its a secret so can't get DH to choose.

I have worked in St Davids as a student many moons ago! It was a lovely place, as I recall, and the staff were decent people - but this was 8 years ago! In Cardiff, it was seen as a better hotel to stay in than any of the others including the Hilton.

Cheers!

another vote for st davids hotel. not stayed there myself, but madonna stayed her last time she did a concert a few months ago...

the bay is a fab place for a weekend away without kids...

what is there to do within walking distance from St Davids hotel for an evening out?

moshie · 18/01/2009 16:14

Loads of places to eat around there. There's also a nightclub, a cinema, bowling. Cardiff city centre is not far either.

oh excellent, am going to the Spa with my sister, they have a "Detox" offer on! I thought one night we could just chill and then go out on the other, we're not clubbers, but a movie might be good, a really girly one that dh would never come to! Thanks Moshie.

how lush bluesky!

take a look

if you do go into cardiff city centre, its safer to get a bus or taxi than it is to walk...its very safe there, just a word of advice!

you can walk across the barrage towards penarth, which has a really lovely posh restuarant called portos.

its about a mile and a half walk, and very blowy, but its lovely, and the barrage is worth a visit.

bluesky · 18/01/2009 19:35

thanks cornedbeefpasty!

Funny you mentioned Portos as I was looking at Cardiff restaurants and that popped up a few times, the meat that hangs down from kebabs for you to pull off. Sounds fun, is it a nice atmosphere on a Saturday night?

I didn't even know about the barrage, so I have been googling that.

thanks again

Oooh - have been to all three

St Davids is the best - lovely hotel, near to loads of great bars/restaurants etc.

Tortworth is ok - bit fuddy duddy (decor etc.) and a bit in the middle of nowhere (apart from the big f*ck off prison next to it !). Nice - but stuffy imho

Cotswold - nice rooms, not far from Tewkesbury (I think ?) but food was a bit naff. Sort of carvery - bit 1980's. Nice spa though

saggyhairyarse · 18/01/2009 20:20

We went to the Cotswold Water Park Hotel and it was lovely!

Decided against Cardiff as we only had one night so wouldn't have left the hotel.

The spa was lovely and I liked the food. We did stay for Sunday lunch and that was a carvery (the rest of the time it wasn't) but it was nicely done

Ah ! Sorry - didn't notice the date of your OP. Perhaps they've changed it now - we went when it first opened last year and it was carvery for all evening meals (which was a bit dull after the third night !)

Glad you enjoyed it though. I would go back for the spa alone
