Anyone know what the potteries are like in Stoke on Trent?

We would like to buy a new dinner set with some Christmas money we have been given.

We don't have a lot to spend but can't find anything that we like in M&S, John Lewis etc and we were wondering about travelling out (an hour) to the potteries in Stoke on Trent?

Had a look online and its very confusing and I wondered whether anyone could tell me whether its worth going?

Will they even be open today, are they close by one another?

We will have an 11 month old so will only tolerate so much shopping!

Thank you.

Are there many left ? When I worked in retail the factories shut down for 2 weeks over Christmas/New Year and in August so suspect they may not reopen till Monday

Thanks Lizs ,was a bit worried that they might not be open. Will have another look online, the site I am looking at is not very good. No contact numbers etc.

This Wedgwood Factory Shop is as good as any and there is a good Portmeirion one slightly further down on the same road. They seem to be open most days and do not follow the factory shutdowns (they are separate retail premises)

It is a lot of luck - sometimes you can go and there's nothing at all, sometimes you can be lucky.

The Portmerion shop in Trentham is very small but Trentham is a good place to visit for lunch/coffee.

Yes, hmm, there aren't many left sadly. Hang on a miute and I'll see if I can find a decent list.

Here Maybe not all of these are still open.

What sort of ware are you looking for?

Anything child friendly in case DD kicks off?!

We're not really sure what we are looking for, so that doesn't help.

My DH likes very plain classic things, and I like flowery and flouncy! We have a strict limit of £200 too.

Thanks everyone, we will find a compromise. Oh Trentham has a park doesn't it and a boating lake (perhaps a bit cold for that)

I've seen those Clayhead but I take umbridge at the spelling. Maybe I'll send a stern email to the manufacturer.

I love the Emma Bridgewater shop myself as I can satisfy my stationery fetish at the same time.

Yes, their spelling is wrong and I was going to say something but I went to the factory shop and the man was just so nice and...I just didn't!

Hi all, we bought a set!! Its cost me a little more than I wanted, even at 50% off but its beautiful. Green and white flowers from Wedgewood. Thanks all. We also had an early baby timed tea on the way home at the pub attached to The Premier Inn, called the Racetrack or similar???? and it was very baby friendly and lovely.

Oooh, tell us more! Is it a Wedgwood one? (they sell all makes from the whole Wedgwood group there). BTW, if you ever want to get anything specific, you can phone there and they will tell you if they have it in and sometimes even put your details down in case they get something in, they are usually very good like that.

Did you manage to find something classic and flowery?

I used to go there when the dc were babies but so much harder to take young children!

Glad you got sorted

Sorry for the delay (I have only just seen that you replied, not sure what happened there??!)

Yes its Wedgewood (who have now gone in to administration )

Its Jasper Conran at Wedgewood so not a classic but quite trendy/modern.

Its white and green, let me see if I can find a picture. Here is a link to it

macys.weddingchannel.com/registry/catalog/Wedgwood+Jasper+Conran+Chinois/ID/13362/PID/1 72121

Does that work?
