Anyone had a problem usiung their own car seat in South Africa?

We're off to South Africa in a few weeks with our nearly 10mo. The only advice I can find states that a car seat needs to have a SABS mark on it - their safety standards. However, obviously my car seat doesn't have it as it's an EU car seat. We need to take our car seat (Britax) as it is compatible on the plane as DS has a seat.

Anyone had any problem - with car rental company or the police - through using a UK car seat in South Africa? It just fastens in using a 3 point seat belt, so I figured that fitting it safely won't be a problem for us.

Thanks!

Did you figure this out. We are going in March and have the same question. Also how did you find out if your car seat is compatible on the plane?

The only time we used a car seat in SA was one that came with the car hire people and it was far from having a SABS mark on it. I wouldn't worry about it too much, if it's anything like here the majority of the population drive around with 27 people in the backseat plus chickens with nary a sign of a carseat.
