Jamaica/Barbados in August - weather good or iffy?

Is it worth going long haul to the Caribbean in August or are we likely to be rained out or hit by a hurricane? Have heard that Jamaica and Barbados are two of the less rainy islands at this time - anyone know any more?

Barbados in August is quite humid, but any rain showers end to be shortlived - and swimming in the Caribbean with warm rain bucketing down on your head is a wonderful experience. Barbados also tends to miss out on the real hurricanes due to its position out of the "chain".
And if you go end of July/beginning of August, you get to see Crop Over - Barbados's version of Carnival

Jamaica can get hit quite badly by the rains and is a lot more likely to get a hurricane than Barbados I think. I think it got a hurricane last summer didn't it? It is rainy season throughout the Caribbean though so it's pretty likely you will get rain wherever you go.
