i've got £78 for London to Blackpool return which is marginally better - on a Virgin Value 3 day advance return

clare1980 · 24/03/2005 20:43

looked but came up wiv same price as you sorry

MunchedTooManyMarsLady · 24/03/2005 20:45

I found £50.15. You would have to buy a family railcard though (about £20 but valid for a year).

looks cheaper to buy 2 x 7 day advance singles, they are £30 each

MunchedTooManyMarsLady · 24/03/2005 20:52

My fare was a return fare, did you only want a single journey? Also it was London to Blackpool. The price changes according to which time you want to travel as well. The best deals are offpeak.

Glad to be of help. The railcard is brilliant for all rail journeys over the year. Hope you get lots of use out of it.

Essbee - I don't know if Marslady's price is an advance fare, but they do get booked up. So book asap.

You can book your tickets online, then buy a railcard before you travel. (You have to buy them from a station.)

Also you can have two adults named on a railcard, and they can each use it individually. So if you know someone who might also use it occasionally, you could split the cost. But you do have to name them when you buy the railcard.

Family Railcard site here

Also, when you're booking, check how much extra another child seat will be. (It may only be a few pounds with the railcard). That way you will be guaranteed plenty of space on the train ... sometimes the trains can be very crowded at Easter, and it can be hard work with a little one on your lap all the way.

If you haven't booked yet, also check different times, sometimes a later or earlier train can work out cheaper. Have a good trip.
