we are going to pd in august ...this is also our first flight !! any tips for first flight and any reccomendations for pd ,ta x

I LOVE PORT DOUGLAS!!!
It is really beautiful. Hire bikes and cycle around. You cannot miss the chapel by the sea (ST Mary's i think). I am not one for chapels but this is a tiny white cute thing all open at the front with the sea in front of it. I had planned to get married there one day.
As you walk down the main street there will be plenty of places that offer trips to barrier reef, plus you can go further north for a bit of rainforest.
It was 5 years ago i was there, on the backpacker route so didn't try any restaurants, plenty of pubs.

hi we are renewing our vows ..on our anniversary in a park by the beach .......where do you hire the bikes from ...

i think we hired them from the hostel we stayed at - can't really remember - but just ask around its pretty small there everyone knows everyone type thing.

We've been and it's fab. Great restaurants, I don't have any particular recommendations cos they were all great! Beach is lovely, nice weekend market there too. Have a great time.

August will be fab time - dry season and no stingers.......

try and do a trip to cape tribulation through the rainforest. Brilliant.

port douglas was fab,fab, fab!!!! all the restaurants we tried were great. Everyone really friendly - small town where everyone knows everyone. We had haircuts at 'the severed ear'!!!! Don't miss the Sunday market. Whole family enjoyed the holiday - ages from 90 down to 8yrs incl three teenagers. Look out for clothes shop called Blokes Up North! (Kylie and Shane Warne were both in town when we went.) Will definitely go again.

We had one of our best every family hols there. PD is great. Restaurants great - reasonable prices, great food and wine. Beach wonderful. We did self catering in a very nice apartment in the centre of the main street - it was great and had a couple of small pools. Would recommend place in centre of town rather than out a bit, unless you have a car. We just loved being able to walk out of our apartment every morning and have breakfast at a little cafe close by. There are lots of things to do. DD was only 2 at the time and we enjoyed the nature park close by. Have fun!

ok thanks for hint on looking at long haul flights..now panicking!! how big are plane seats!! a thread there makes it sound like if your not size 12 you gonna be hauled to the luggage hold instead !! we are going quantas/ba
