Going to parents in France on the ferry this time. I am confident we can navigate the 1.5 hours theouh Brittany but DH not so sure. Does anyone have a France/Europe card that we could borrow please. I am a very trusted MNetter . Normally suwoo when not in Christmas disguise. Thank you.

I don't have the France one as we always go to Spain but have a search online, we always find the Spanish maps available to download for free somewhere on there.

suwoodolf · 05/12/2008 10:59

Oh do you? For the Tomtom? Thanks bluebump, I assumed DH had tried that- but maybe not. I'll have a quick look now, cheers.

I'd say you can borrow mine but I will be needing it at the same time as you!

How about the AA website route planner? They do a Europe version, pretty good. Here.

suwoodolf · 05/12/2008 11:04

I'm not bloody reading from a map! Thanks though Flowery, where are you going? You were on my ferry thread weren't you?

Well it does give actual instructions as well as a map, but I see what you mean

Yes was on ferry thread, we're off to my parents in Normandy. We took the plunge and went for overnights on 22nd and 26th.

suwoodolf · 05/12/2008 11:15

We nearly went on 22nd, but going on 21st, coming back 29th. Just mentioned to DH about downloading them and he said you still have to pay for them, we were hoping to get one free cheaper .

Have you got your high viz vest and warning triangle flowery?

OP posts:
flowerytaleofNewYork · 05/12/2008 11:30

Um, good point. Think there's a triangle in the car but we probably haven't got a fetching high viz vest, will have to pop to Halfords.

Thanks for reminder!

suwoodolf · 05/12/2008 11:31

£1.89 on Ebay with free postage

cheers!

bluebump · 05/12/2008 15:59

Yeah i'll ask him later where he gets them from as i'm sure his maps cover all of Europe!

bluebump · 05/12/2008 16:52

Ok he says you need to have a Tom Tom where the memory stick comes out and you need to try either Lime Wire or Demonoid (I think I spelt those right!) but be aware these aren't legal download sites so it's up to you to whether you download from then or not! I have to say that I needed to get to a hospital when I was pregnant urgently in Spain and it got us there perfectly in a place where we would never have found it before so for us it was very valuable!

suwoodolf · 05/12/2008 19:08

Ours has got an sd card not a memory stick though? Ours is a tomtom one is it the same? If it is will you ask your DH for more explicit instructions please. My DH is being a bit thick tonight.

bluebump · 05/12/2008 21:02

Ok he says that's fine, you use the SD card to download them onto then put them onto your TomTom. I'm guessing though you may need a laptop though unless you have a way of putting the SD card in your computer? He says when you download the maps from either of those places it will also download a key generator which you need to crack the maps or something! You'd never guess half my degree was in computing! See if that makes any sense with him and if not i'll check back in a bit!

suwoodolf · 05/12/2008 21:36

So we will need a blank sd card then, as we don't want to wipe the current uk one.

OP posts:
bluebump · 05/12/2008 22:10

Yes, we do have a separate one for the Europe maps.

suwoodolf · 05/12/2008 22:20

Right, so we need to Ebay an sd card, I imagine they are fairly cheap. Will do that then along with the beam benders, high viz vest and bloody triangle- its a dear do this trip

KnickKnack · 05/12/2008 22:35

Su...here are the copies of the french (and european maps) on Demonoid

and at road trip to france!

suwoodolf · 05/12/2008 22:58

We have one of those blue sd cards in our tomtom and that won't go directly into our laptop, so how do we download it?? >

OP posts:
bluebump · 06/12/2008 10:35

Hmmm I don't know actually! You may need a card reader, i've used them at work and you can plug them into your laptop and plug the card in the box bit on the other end. Your local library or somewhere may have one you can use.

Our trips to Spain were just the same to start off with, I started to miss the chaos of flying Easyjet!

suwoodolf · 07/12/2008 08:14

All sorted- a friend is doing it for me .
