Grange Holborn
Holiday Inn Bloomsbury
Grosvenor House
Beauchamp Hotel
Le Meridian Picadilly
Ruebens at the Palace
Radisson Edwardian Marlborough
Radisson Edwardian Grafton
Courthouse Hotel
Park Inn Russel Square

Any advice or opinions on these, or recommendations for others would be great. And how close they may be to tube station or Her Majesty's Theatre

many thanks

What is closest tube to the theatre you want - or is that part of what you're asking? Once we know tube, can then advise better on hotels.

I think picadilly circus is the closest. I know some of these are russell sq and one marble arch.

Have had a look at some online reviews and the clear winners are the Holiday Inn, Grosvenor House, Radisson Marlborough and Beauchamp, but its always good to get the MN opinion

I have only been inside rooms at Grosvenor House - but that was about 5 years ago. It is very large and on Park Lane so a 10-15 min walk to Picadilly Circus.

Meridien Picadilly would be the closest. The ones toward Russell Square would be much more of a 'hike' - but maybe that is OK? IIRC, Edwardian Marlborough is on Great Marlborough Street - so very close to Oxford Circus - which may be a bit too manic if you're planning to go before Christmas.

Is budget an issue?

mosschops30 · 04/12/2008 16:10

we're going in January. Price is obviously an issue (isnt it for everyone ) but Im happy to spend about £350 on a hotel/theatre tciket package, which is what these are coming in at or around

Le Meridien are always fabulous- haven't stayed at that one, but the others I've been to were marvellous.

Earlybird · 04/12/2008 16:20

Try the Meridien or the Marlborough (double check it is on Great Marlborough Street). Just to be safe, make sure they aren't doing any renovations. I've been caught out in the past by 'deals' that were on offer due to scaffolding/drilling etc.

mosschops30 · 04/12/2008 16:24

The Marlborough is renovating but apparently most of it done and the rooms look amazing.

Le Meridian is good value £316 but has dreadful reviews on tripadvisor

Hmmm - not good on Meridien then. Could Marlborough guarantee quiet room?

Iirc, Rubens is in Victoria, so not too convenient though you'd have a nice walk past Buckingham Palace and through the park - also Victoria Line would take you to Green Park so that is easy.

Don't know about Holiday Inn Bloomsbury - but there used to be a nice Holiday Inn Mayfair.

Is Courthouse Hotel the one in old Court building on Great Marlborough Street? If so, good location and might be worth checking out. Think it's just across the street from Liberty.

mosschops30 · 04/12/2008 17:53

Ok choices are now as follows, so any help would be great

Holiday Inn Bloomsbury (Caram St) £332
Beauchamp Hotel (Bedford Place, Russell Sq) £376
Radisson Edwardian Marlborough (Bloomsbury Str) £388

Ive stayed at Marlborough in jan last year, my cousin worked there and got us a room for 50 pounds per night on her staff discount. the room was lovely, breakfast very good, location excellent however I wouldnt recommend their restaurant for food.

mosschops30 · 04/12/2008 19:23

thanks lazysleepy have ruled out the Marlborough now as too expensive compared to the other two

All I want to say is that the breakfasts at Holiday Inns are always scrumptious. Cheers

andyrobo237 · 11/12/2008 14:02

We stayed at the Marlborough last winter and I was not impressed - we had a room looking inwards, the room was small and was dark, and they were definately in need of renovation - the bathroom was poor. It was warm though! For £241 for a night with breakfast, I thought it was steep!

WillburyNibbleQC · 11/12/2008 14:08

Just paid £36 per night for a family room and breakfast for 4 people at travelodge in covent garden (old holborn building, NOT drury lane).

It was clean and room was spacious.
Breakfast was lovely.

Not the most glamorous hotel ever, but very conveniently located for west end and tube connections.

Holiday Inn Bloomsbury is quite nice. I used to stay there a lot with work and it's clean, comfortable - nice restaurant
