Any suggestions of how to keep a 18mth old in their bed on holiday without a bedguard?

We're going to Spain next summer and DS2 will be 18mths and his room will have a single bed. He has slept in a single bed at a friends house but we had a portable bedguard to stop him falling out. However, we'll be flying so wont' be able to take it with us. Any suggestions as to how we can keep in safely in the bed without a traditional bed guard?

Some airlines allow you to bring a travel cot free on top of your luggage - have you checked with yours?

Turning a sheet sideways and tucking it in tightly works, I'm told. Or put pillows on the floor in case he does tumble out.

Yes, sheet works sometimes.

We used a couple of chairs once, and put them against the side of the bed.

Why not take the mattress off the bed and put it on the floor?

I'd be using a travel cot for sure with mine at that age. Any chance one could be provided?

You can get travel bed guards I think...

thanks everyone - DaisyMoo - that is a brilliant idea! DS2 really doesn\t like travelcots - screams the place down if he's put in one! Also like the sheet thing too and the chair thing! God bless mumsnet
