Best toy(s) for long haul with 10 month old

We're flying to Florida in a couple of weeks and I'm stumped as to what fairly portable toy(s) I should take to keep DS entertained (and awake) on the flight. I'm travelling solo so it shouldn't be something too unwieldy (sp?). Any suggestions?

We're off to Kenya next week, and been gathering up toys to entertain DD (10 months) on the plane - I found some little books in WHSmith that attach to a car seat (or my wrist if all else fails), as I don't want to spend the whole flight scrabbling about on my hands and knees to find things she's thrown on the floor. I also bought a carton of bubble solution plus wand for the airport, and some finger puppets. Unfortunately, can't tell you if she loved anything yet as I'm keeping it all hidden so it will be new and exciting and hopefully hold her attention longer than 5 minutes.

I like the bubble solution but will they let you take it through security? Finger puppets are a good idea, I hadn't thought about those. We're going new toy shopping this weekend - I too plan on keeping them hidden until the big day.

I've bought duplicates of a couple of my dd's favs for trip to NZ. And I'll be tying them to my wrist for take off and landing in case she loses grip - last thing I want is screaming infant and cabin attendant yelling at me for getting up to retrieve a peacock!
