what to do on Christmas day in Florida

DH and I are taking the DCs to Florida for Christmas and NEw year but we are undecided as to what to do on Christmas day itself. Just do the parks and have a different christmas day/dinner or book a table at a hotel/restaurant and have an organised christmas dinner or do one of the day trips like Planet Hollywood.
DH says it's up to me. Too much pressure!! Help please. TIA

The parks can get very very busy apparently. Was it last year or year before were Magic Kingdom had to close its gates to more admissions as it was completely full.

However can imagine it is lovely an Christmassy and magical once inside.

oh swoon with envy - I would book the Rainforest Cafe at Animal Kingdom for lunch and spend the day wandering round AK.

Has the website got any tips about how to do a Disney Christmas? It will be magical that's for sure.

Where are you staying? On Disney property or a villa?

mckenzie · 26/11/2008 20:40

hi Kbear, thanks for the idea re Rain Forest - would that be better than Planet Hollywood do you think?
We're staying in a villa in Kissimee, none of us have been there before and the DCs are so excited (age 7 and 3). Have you been there? Any tios gratefully received.

We went in May (surprised you don't know I went on about it enough ha ha!)

We had dinner at the Rainforest Cafe on our last day, it was great. Thunderstorms every half hour or something, wonderful staff, amazing decor, you must have a VOLCANO which is a family sized chocolate brownie and icecream creation which is greeted by the whole place shouting VOL-CAAAAANOOOOO whenever someone orders one!!

We loved Planet Hollywood too - do you mean the one at Downtown Disney? That was fab - the best burgers we've ever had (and DH is burger expert ha ha).

I could ramble on about everything DisneyWorld/Orlando all night - happy to talk specifics if you need more info!

we spent Christmas day in the Magic Kingdom and had lunch in Cinderellas Castle - magical - in a past life - Christmas 2002 - pre kids

My SIL and BIL are going for the second time at xmas....this xmas!!

last time they booked to have a xmas breakfast at the magic kingdom (is that disneyland??) and then spent the day there, ending with the xmas fireworks.

they loved it so much that is why they are going back this year!

mckenzie · 26/11/2008 21:17

thanks for the extra replies. The only place that does breakfast at magic kingdom is the Cinderella restaurant and 7 year old DS would not be happy me thinks (even though 3 year old DD would be delighted!) I've booked rain forest Kbear for lunchtime and if we wake up at the crack of dawn (we only arrive on 23rd so I'm guessing our sleep patterns will still be disrupted by 25th ) perhaps we'll try and get out early and enjoy a breakfast somewhere too. DS might not mind the cinderella breakfast if he knows he's having a Rainforest lunch. I can see a lot of bargaining going on this holiday. They are just going to want to do completely different things aren't they?

you know, with the magic of it being xmas, I really don;t think that come the day, your DS would mind a cinderella breakfast on xmas morning.

my SIL and BIL took their children....girl then 15 and boys 14 and 12, and they LOVED it

mckenzie · 26/11/2008 21:50

sods law. Dh and I decided to book the Cinderella breakfast and no joy, fully booked. So I've booked the Winnie the Pooh one instead. DH is looking forward to it anyway

best holiday ever

All the parks will be extremely busy on Christmas Day. Went on Christmas Day to the Magic K p - never again!.

I hope you enjoy your Winnie the Pooh brekkie!.
Have read many good reviews in the past of the Rainforest Cafe at the Animal Kingdom.

(For future reference you need to book the character breakfast and or lunch at Cinderella's castle at least three months in advance. This is when they start taking bookings).
