Anyone been to the Fallas in Valencia? Suitability for small children?

It's a fire festival with lots of bonfires, fireworks, etc.

A friend is getting married in Valencia the Saturday after Fallas and has suggested that guests come out a few days early to enjoy the climax of the festival.

Anyone who's been, if we go for the festical and stay centrally in Valencia, will the DCs (will be 4 and nearly 1) get any sleep? Should we aim to stay outside town and travel in? I get the impression that the noisiest bits can be avoided quite easily, but if we do that is there enough non-noisy stuff left to make it worth going at all or should we just aim to go for the wedding itself?

hi - i studied in Valencia about 16 years ago so this isn't very current but from what i remember...

The centre of town is very very noisy - they have the 'mascleta' at about 2pm every day which is lots of very noisy fireworks, and then there are various firework displays each evening - culminating in the brning of the papier mache statues on the last day. Think festival is 3-4 days long in total?

So- if your kids like fireworks, then th evening displays might be worth it (although they were pretty late at night - maybe 10ish?) - bt definitely avoid the 2pm round as these are loud and frightening - not to mention dangerous!

Sorry that sounsd awful - age 21 the fallas were FANTASTIC - am just not sure they are really very child friendly?

Thanks! That was my concern -- friend in question has no children and gets very enthusiastic about everything, so will be inclined to tell us it's fine for small children regardless of the actual situation.

Hmm... maybe just go for the wedding this time and make a note to go back when the DCs are older...
