Car seat for plane / in Hong Kong

We are taking a 12 hour flight with our 11 month old in December. We have booked a seat for her. Will she need to sit in her forward facing car seat in the aeroplane seat or just in the aeroplane seat?

Also, my parents assure me it won't be necessary to put her in a car seat on their car once we get there as the traffic moves slowly and most people put their children "on their laps". I have real concerns about this, but does anyone know what the law in HK says?

Thanks!

Which airline are you using to fly to HK?. Eleven month olds do not usually have their own seat unless you have paid for a seat. Would double check with the airline exactly what will be provided seat wise.

Your child certainly should have a suitable car seat for being transporting around - what if you were involved in a car accident?. Think your parents are well wide of the mark here to state such opinions.

Hi Onelittletreasure,

I did the same for my dd on a long haul flight, the bonus of taking the seat on board is that i found she fell asleep much quicker as its v. normal for them to chill out in the car and fall asleep. I also found that she is more settled generally on a plane when we had her seat with us.

ALternatively you will put her on your knee for take off and landing and then they stretch out on the seat while flying.

WHen it comes to the movements in a car, you should do what you are comfortable with not what anyone else tells you.

Hope that helps and have a great trip

I once had a minor car crash while in a taxi in HK. Nothing serious, but if I'd been holding a baby, it could have been. If you have the car seat, use it. I'm sure you will.

Have been to HK and certainly did not find traffic slow moving. I guess it depends where you go.
